My Students
I love my fifth graders! Our Title I school in New York City is comprised of a diverse group of students who mostly receive free lunch.
Our students are very energetic and have very different learning styles, abilities, and needs.
Many of our students have learning disabilities and some of our students have fallen behind since the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is very important for us to encourage both group work, especially during these times, and independent work so our students can succeed academically and socially. In order to do this, we have to appeal to our students' interests by staying up-to-date with technology. Many of our students do not have computers, tablets, or Internet at home. In order to succeed today, we want to expose them to this technology as much as possible in school!
My Project
Amazon Fire Tablets will be super useful in our Fifth Grade ELA class! We would be able to use amazing apps such as, Nearpod, Quizlet, Kahoot, and IXL, which will allow my students to interact with and review content in multiple formats while providing immediate feedback on their skill mastery and next steps. In addition, they will be able to use apps like Flipgrid, which allows them to create videos about what they learn and learn by watching their peers teach!
The addition of these Amazon Fire tables to my classroom will help me ensure that all students are fully engaged in their learning while holding them each accountable for their work.
The tablets will also provide my Special Education inclusion students interactive and enjoyable ways to practice individualized review skills on a daily basis. So many of our students need remedial work to catch up on their loss of time in the classroom due to the COVID -19 pandemic.
The tablets will also allow all levels of students to read and listen to quality literature through programs such as Audible. In addition, the tablets will also serve as a great enrichment tool for those who are doing above grade level work.
Finally, Amazon Fire tablets will help provide my students with the opportunities to practice the skills that will allow them to be successful, creative, and competitive leaders in the 21st century.
