Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fourth graders are as unique as they come. Together they form a melting pot of cultures and academic levels. I have students that can barely add two digit numbers, as well as students that are so advanced that I have to create new lessons to challenge them.

Mainly, these students come from single parent homes who work multiple jobs to make ends meet.

Most of my students receive free or reduced lunch and many still don't have all their materials for school. I want to be able to provide my students with the necessary tools they need to love and thrive at school.

My Project

Our class needs Amazon Fire tablets to complete interactive assignments in class. Our school is now using Nearpod. This program allows me to lead lessons using a device (PC/phone or tablet). From there my students will be following along with their own device. At a given point, the student will be prompted to complete a task to move on to the next part of the lesson. In doing this, the student will be allowed to move at their own pace and the individualized learning begins.

By having these tablets, student will stay focused and engaged on what is being taught because they are moving at their own pace.

Once the lesson is complete, the program will generate data that will help me drive my planning and instruction. An added bonus is our school is developing a STEAM program and this will be an awesome way to incorporate technology in the classroom. We live in a society which is powered by technology, and I want to be able to incorporate this facet into my classroom and to help my students advance by using it.
