I work in a Title I school where more than ninety-five percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunches. I teach in a very small district that sometimes struggles to provide funding for scientific advancement.
Even though many of my students have a challenging home life, they come to school ready to learn, in order to better themselves as individuals and future leaders in our communities.
The students I teach are always asking questions about the world around them and have an intrinsic wonder.
I have been working at a school that does not have gas in the chemistry classroom. This has really impeded my ability to engage the students in really interesting labs.
We have been doing "kitchen chemistry" reactions, but these are in no way as engaging and interesting for my students.
This donation will allow my students to engage in lab activities like they would experience in higher education.
My hope is to get enough portable burners so that my students can see how synthesis and combustion reactions work. We have been watching videos of these reactions, but again, there is no substitute for the real thing.
