Fine Motor Skills Build Strong Writers

Help me give my students a strong start in school by building their fine motor skills. The twist and write pencils are a great resource to use for children who need support with correct pencil grip.

My Students

Every morning I greet my students with a smile and I love seeing instantly how excited they are to be at school. A child’s love of learning is one of my main goals for these children who are first starting school.

Kindergarten is the starting block of all students’ education.

Working in a district with a high rate of free and reduced price lunches, a high rate of foster care and homeless youth, and a variety of disabilities provides challenges but nothing we can’t overcome. These challenges push me to be a better educator to meet all students needs and teach them each child has the opportunity to learn and love school. We work together to make each day in kindergarten better than the day before and the best year they will ever have.

My Project

Students coming into Kindergarten are full of energy and ready to learn! One of the biggest challenges is the wide variety of student skill level and special supports that are needed to help each child be successful from the first day of school.

Strong fine motor skills are an essential tool for students to have as they become master writers.

The twist and write pencils are a great resource to have for students who are struggling with proper pencil grip; therefore, struggling to even write their name. These special pencils are designed to help students learn proper pencil grip, while building the strength in their fingers to eventually progress to the use of a regular pencil.

The sand and other items are used to create fine motor bins that are a fun and engaging way for students to play while building their fine motor skills. All students are given the opportunity daily to play with a variety of tools and teacher created resources to promote strong fine motor skills. This is the building block for strong writing skills they will use throughout the year and beyond.
