I currently teach a fully self-contained special education class in a Title I elementary school in Hilo, Hawaii. I have a range of students from kindergarten to fifth grade with all different sorts of disabilities, ranging from genetic disorders, autism, cerebral palsy, and intellectually disabled.
In my fully self-contained and medically fragile classroom, I want the students to be able to feel healthy and comfortable due to routines and structure but have fun learning as well.
We try to focus on life skills, healthy life styles and a positive learning environment.
My Project
We would like to request more fine motor activities, games, books, storage, and a vacuum. The fine motor games and activities will help our students develop early writing skills and build their muscle tone to help their fine motor development. We are also requesting storage to house all of our materials and new books. Our students also learn essential life skills in our class. We are also requesting a vacuum to teach the students how to clean up after themselves.
