My Project

Our school is a PreK through fifth grade school with over seven hundred students, including a large population of ELL students. Our students come from all different religious, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Some of our students come from homes that speak one of nine different languages! We are also privileged to serve military families and children of our local Air Force Military Base.

My class is an Early Childhood Special Education class with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments from ages three to five years old.

In our school, there is a large special needs population with a heavy emphasis on Autism. The students in my class see the world through a different pair of glasses. My students are developmentally delayed in many areas. In addition to implementing the pre-k guidelines, we also work on self-help skills, developmental milestones and build language and social skills. This can look different for every student, but they all have the capabilities to learn and be successful regardless of their disability or behavior. Our students help us to see the world through their eyes. Developing fine motor skills helps our students do things like eating, writing, manipulating objects, and getting dressed.

The materials in this project will help our students practice fine motor skills that will build a solid foundation for their future everyday tasks. Developing fine motor skills early in life, helps students to become stronger learners!
