Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a busy and inquisitive class of Transitional Kindergartners. We are located in a low-income community in Southern California with a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds. We are excited to learn and show anyone and everyone how successful we can be! As a TK teacher, I see the children beginning the school year struggling with their fine motor skills. So many of them do not know how to cut or hold a pencil. In responding to this problem, I have fine motor activities at each group table during the school day.
My Project
Not only will these materials enhance my student's fine motor skills, in addition, they will further their academic achievement. These dual-purpose activities focus on fine motor capabilities, letter and number skills, sorting, and creativity.
By having products such as Clip and Create Builders and Alphabet Dough Stamps, the children will have an excellent opportunity to build up the small muscles in their hands.
As the school year progresses, students will be able to use these manipulatives in independent centers while small group guided reading instruction is happening. These particular materials allow for learning objectives to change as the year goes on. For example, at the beginning of the year students can use the Dough Letter Stamps for letter identification and name building; then as the year goes on, students can use those same activities for building sight words.
