My Students

My classroom is in an urban, high poverty area where approximately 90% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students come to school eager to learn, but often with many of their basic needs going unmet.

My students are energetic, artistic, creative, and have a broad range of early childhood experiences.

It is my goal to provide a safe, warm community full of hands-on and creative opportunities to help the children in my classroom reach their full potential.

My Project

Every year I have several students who do not have the fine motor strength and control that their same aged peers have. The lack of fine motor muscles in their hands and fingers causes writing stamina and letter formation to be a very difficult task. Students who do not have the ability to hold a pencil correctly often become frustrated and overwhelmed when writing.

I need materials that will make improving fine motor control and strength a fun activity that the students look forward to!

I'm requesting pencil grippers to help students improved their finger placement, lite bright toys to help students work on their fine motor control, a pre-writing magnetic board, and a playdoh like item called Monkey Foam for students to manipulate and strengthen their hand muscles.
