This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
"Where are the science books? Soccer books? Elephant and Piggie? Capybaras?" The questions keep coming all day in our bustling school library.
Students can't fall in love with reading if they can't find the right book!
Many years ago I transitioned our beginning non-fiction and series books to bins, and it was a big success. Younger students can build independence by browsing visual signage and forward facing books, instead of struggling with old fashioned spine-out shelves.
After years of heavy use, the plastic dollar store bins are giving out. Help us replace them with durable acrylic bins designed with modern library use in mind. Their shape holds more books and allows for easier flipping. The transparent material increases visibility - yes, kids do judge books by the cover! Acrylic book displays will also draw the eye of budding readers.
Nearly 100% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, with limited access to books outside of school. Our needs are only growing - enrollment is up, transitional kindergarten is expanding, and we've added special education classrooms. All our amazing scholars deserve better than faded and cracked plastic bins. Help us send the right message about reading with clean and modern book storage.
