Finding the Love of Reading-Take Home Reading in Kindergarten
Help me give my students English-Spanish First Little Readers, Zipper Pouches for books, Card stock, a Paper Trimmer, Heart Stickers, 4-Tier Letter Tray Desk Organizer, and other classroom supplies to assist them to be the readers that they are destined to be!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My Students
My students are wonderful kindergartners in a Title I school where many of my classroom families receive a free or reduced-cost lunch, come from low-income homes and are English Learners.
Many of my students are from these under-served families. My calling, as their teacher, is to give them enriching activities and resources to engage and enhance their learning. I am striving to give them the opportunity to read and share literature with their families within their homes. It is my hope to engage all my families with culturally relevant literature that gives students the opportunity to practice reading in their homes.
My Project
My students are beginning to read. All of my students are super excited to learn to read and are absolutely enjoying reading with me and sharing books with their classmates. I wish to amplify my student library with 100 new books. My students will be taking to share with their families in their homes in our new zipper mesh book pouches. I will create and organize in our new trays and send home reading logs made out of the card stock in our project. I will utilize my new paper trimmer to cut out book marks for each student, to create labels for organizing our new books and will be able to replace our old paper cutter that is unable to cut through card stock. My students will be able to enjoy these English-Spanish First Little Readers year after year---this project will enhance my students' literacy year after year. I wish to encourage that love of reading with stickers to add to their reading logs. My students deserve the best during this very unprecedented time, please help us achieve our learning goals!
