I work in an amazing art integrated public school in Kentucky. Our students audition and are accepted into our school for creative and performing arts. This makes for a very unique and wonderful teaching and learning environment. Though all our students have the commonality of being identified as talented in their focus arts areas, we have a diverse population of students with a wide range of academic interests and abilities that come from all over our city.
My students are highly motivated and hardworking children-Because of their diverse educational backgrounds, they have all had different scientific and math experiences, but providing engaging and motivating hands-on experiences and online tools in the lab allows all my students the ability to teach and learn from one another and achieve success.
Students get an insider's view of how engineers apply mathematical skills and scientific knowledge to solve problems. In my classroom, we think and wonder, wonder, and think, each and every day. It is my intention to create 21st-century thinkers and problem solvers.
My Project
My students are creative and curious. Help keep the curiosity alive by providing students with collage materials such as magazines, patterned papers, adhesives and tools.
Having a wide variety of visual materials gives students inspiration and allows them to incorporate "real life" and personal meaning in their art making- our students are bombarded with visual imagery every day and overwhelmed by screens and images currently.
Paper collage allows them the opportunity to analyze visual elements and combine images to create and enhance personally-expressive artworks.
This variety of resources including collage texts and collage paper will give students the opportunity to explore the art of collage. Collage allows students to look at familiar images with an artistic eye and identify visual elements that can be used express their personal ideas and meaning in their artworks.
Young artists explore texture, shape, and composition while conveying messages in a way not possible through drawing and painting alone. These items will allow my student's creativity to thrive without the boundaries of limited materials.
