Finding Out About Our World!

My students need 40 subscriptions to Let's Find Out magazine to help them learn about the world around them. We also need simple texts and materials related to animals.

My Students

Students in my classroom are three, four, and five year olds who have been identified with risk factors that could impede their learning and success in kindergarten. This includes areas of literacy and language, math, and social and emotional growth. Many students come from poverty, have a special need, or are learning English as a second language.

My classroom is full of energetic and curious preschoolers who love to explore and learn about their world.

They learn best through active and purposeful play. I love to see the enthusiasm and excitement on their faces when they have discovered or experienced something for the first time.

My Project

Have you ever watched a chick hatch out of an egg? Or observe an animal preparing for hibernation? The students in my classroom don't always have the opportunity to experience the world around them, up close and personal. The Let's Find Out magazine will be a resource used by my students to go along with the themes and topics of study that are planned throughout the school year. Students will be able to "read along" with classmates and teachers during small and large group times while continuing their learning through active exploration. This resource will provide opportunities for my students to develop early reading, social studies, science, and math skills while learning about topics such as life cycles, friendships and emotions, and health and safety.

In addition to the magazine, my students will be able to further their knowledge about animals and their habitats and healthy habits by looking at vivid pictures and simple text relating to these topics with the books and hands-on activities.

Not only will these materials provide learning and exploration in my classroom, but your donation will make it possible for these resources to go home with my students so the conversations and learning can continue with their families.

This also includes access to online learning activities and videos that correspond with each issue. This resource will help my students develop skills to be successful in kindergarten and encourage them to become eager and lifelong learners.
