Help me give my students books that they can find themselves in. My students need to be able to see their families and cultures in the books in our classroom.
As a teacher at a magnet school, my students have diverse backgrounds. Students come from urban areas, suburban areas, and even some rural areas! We have them all working together and learning from each other.
Although my students come from various nationalities they all come to school to learn and grow.
My job as their teachers is to provide them with a safe place for them to learn and grow during their year with me. During the year, we become a family.
My Project
My students come from very diverse backgrounds. The students are all learning to read and want to be able to find themselves in the books that they read. While we are blessed with many books in our room and in our school we are still working to assemble books that look like our children.
My students get so excited when they are able to see themselves in the books that we are reading!
They engage more with the story when the story and characters are relevant to their lives. My students love seeing themselves mirrored in the books we read and this will add to our collection of books that the students kind find themselves in! I would love to be able to have these book to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month also!
