Can you imagine not being able to tell someone when your hungry? How about when you need to use the restroom? Or when you have a headache? My students struggle with these types of scenarios everyday!
My students are in middle school and have been diagnosed with severe Autism.
They are a great bunch of kids who strive to learn but do not have all of the resources they need available. They have severe language delays and many of them are nonverbal. All of them attend a public school setting where we try to be as inclusive as possible! These students are great individuals who with the right teaching and resources can continue to grow into independent adults!
My Project
I am requesting an iPad for my classroom. There are countless apps available for iPads that can be hugely beneficial. I am most looking forward to using the iPad as a communication board. I will be able to program the iPad to help students communicate to myself and others. It will require students to touch picture/word combinations in order to show me what they want or need. I also plan to use the iPad for video modeling, a research based strategy to help children learn social skills as well as routines and procedures. Having an iPad for my students will be hugely beneficial in so many ways. I cannot express enough how useful it will be for my students!
Your willingness to donate to this cause will not be taken for granted!
The amount of help you will be giving these students and the many people I will continue to work with is tremendous. I know that the students will be able to make huge gains with your help. Thank you so much for looking into this project and I hope together we can make a difference!
