it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Bon jour! Salam wa Eileykum! Buenas Dias! These are just a few of the ways that you will be greeted by students in our class. Although from different countries with different backgrounds, my students come together to create a warm and supportive academic community where students learn to read, write and speak in English, all through social studies content. This happens in a collaborative environment grounded in project-based learning.
Our ninth and tenth graders are all newcomers, having just arrived from their home countries to the South Bronx, ready to learn and thrive!
My students represent the very best about what it means to be American. While many face numerous difficulties, they persevere to accomplish their goals and become pillars of the community.
My Project
This project will be used to support my students as they create digital installations that explore their identities. For this project, students will make of a photo essay that captures the various aspects of their identity with a voice over that describes how the photos relate to their identity. Headphones with a microphone are essential to make a high quality instillation as students need them to create and revise their voiceovers. Moreover, these headphones will be used throughout the year as we focus on media making to explore US History while learning English.
This project will empower my students to hear their voices as they learn English!
Too often, my students struggle to find their confidence when they find themselves in environments with native English speakers because they are self-conscious about their accents. These tools can make a real difference in empowering my students to speak and communicate confidently!
