This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school only has about 250 students divided between 10 classes. Many of these students stay together from year to year, forming a family-like feel with each other. Our students value their time at school and look to their teachers and friends for the support they may be lacking in other areas of their life.

Many of our students are still learning how to understand and control their emotions, as well as how to self-regulate those emotions when they are upset.

My Project

My students do not have a whole lot of consistency in their lives other than coming to school everyday. However, our school day is full of a lot of transitions, which can be difficult. I would like to incorporate community circles to start and end our day so that our classroom is our community where we are able to support each other. During our community circles, I would also like to teach the students some yoga that they can use before or after transitions or other times that they are not feeling regulated. Not being regulated makes it difficult to be a part of our community and I want all my students to be successful.
