This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a highly diverse group of students in many areas. They are both ethnically and socioeconomically diverse. They are a curious group of students that also show a diversity in their views as well as their learning styles. Our school thrives on honoring the individuality of each student and valuing what they bring to our school community. Students are encouraged to be independent, critical thinkers and to learn more about the world around them through books, magazines, technology, and each other.
My Project
My student's love to write and are about to embark on a variety of writing projects that will involve them using their voice as they explore different genres of writing. They will use the information they learned about biomes to write persuasive arguments as to why others should visit their biome, create informational ebooks about their biomes, and write fictional adventure stories that take place in their biomes. One area that my students need more help in across the writing genres is finding their voice and this writing unit will help them grow in this area.
I want my students to explore finding their voice in a fun and creative way.
The materials I requested will be used as mentor texts to allow my students to explore a variety of author's using their voice in graphic novels. My students will then create and publish their own stories using the blank hardcover books and labels to culminate this unit.
