Finding Historical Context for Tolerance

My students need the a variety of books in the Who Was and What Was series, a portable cart, and a portable photo printer.

My Students

I am a National Board Certified teacher in Literacy. I work at a Title I elementary school. Many of my students come from military families due to our location near several bases. Our school is diverse with learning styles, cultures, and interests. My students are hardworking, creative, critical thinkers. My students are future artists, inventors, authors, and natural leaders. Success is at their fingertips and I know that with the right learning environment, I will nurture each and everyone of them.

My Project

I requested these books because they provide a kid engaging format for historical events. Students will learn and read about historical events with tolerance in mind. Students will read biographies about Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Gandhi, and Malala. Students will discuss ways these individuals symbolized hope, peace, and freedom. The storage cases will be used to hold students work and make for easy removal and use. Students will use the portable printer to document what a just and peaceful world should look like.

I want my students to develop an understanding that they too can take action to eradicate irrational hatred.
