Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a school where 90% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students are aged 3-5 years old, and all have Individualized Education Plans. My students are curious, full of energy and life, and always eager to learn! They love learning new skills and are proud of their own successes and those of their peers. My ultimate goal is to give my students a positive learning experience in a school setting, setting the foundation for a love of learning, and a love of school.

Students learn best through hands-on experiences and through the process rather than always having to produce a product.

We are a classroom family learning patience, empathy, and acceptance for everyone.

My Project

The times they are a-changing! At school, we need activities that students can engage in independently during this pandemic. The one thing that is not changing is that young students learn best through hands-on learning. My 3-5-year-old special education students need Early Math Folder Games Libraries, Early Language Folder Game Libraries, Fine Motor Math Centers, and Learning Letters Activity Centers, to strengthen the muscles in their hands while having fun learning. Many of these activities will provide my students with opportunities to work on basic math skills like numeral identification, counting, subitizing, sorting, and patterning. Other games will increase interest in letter identification, building letters, and writing letters.

Often students require repetition of activities to acquire skills.

Having folder games and fine motor activities available, students can engage in fun, age-appropriate learning activities that will focus on specific skills needed to master goals on their individual education plans.

Providing students with math and language folder games with small pre-cut objects, and math/literacy instant learning centers with small manipulatives and tweezers will give them multiple opportunities to use their hands in different ways and help them develop stamina and muscle control so when they are ready to write they will be successful.
