This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach over 500 students in twenty-three P.E. classes each week. My students spend their academic day working on reading, writing and science at my elementary school in the heart of the Rocky Mountains.
When students step into the gym, I want it to be the most entertaining and physically active half hour of the week.
A successful P.E. activity leaves everyone out of breath, smiling and never knowing they just improved their coordination, agility, endurance and overall fitness.
My Project
Mastering a balance board is a super fun activity that coincidentally strengthens a child's core muscles. Maintaining your footing on a wobbly surface also improves agility.
The focus and endurance required to master a balance board reaches beyond the gym.
To keep from tipping on a balance board, students must remain constantly attentive then make instant adjustments. This activity increases mental stamina which in turn enriches their academic studies. Once balance is conquered, students move on to fun tricks like the wobble walk and spinning. Screams of delight will fill the air when students see twelve crazy spoon shaped boards lined up in the gym. By donating to my project, you will be blessing my students' lives with greater physical and mental strength.
Additionally, I've added P.E. equipment (Slammo set, plastic balls, and Velcro tape) to allow more students to be actively engaged in my throwing and catching P.E. unit.
