A high level of physical energy isn’t rare, it’s to be expected in children with high intelligence. Working with gifted students, especially after being away from a physical classroom for over a year, I've noticed many students having difficulty adjusting to sitting in a classroom all day.
All of my students experienced being isolated at home for at least one school year.
Now that we are back in the building, we are seeing the effects. Students need tools to help them get out some energy in appropriate ways. The amount of recess time has been reduced this year due to COVID and kids need an outlet.
My Project
With students adjusting to being back in a physical classroom and sitting for long periods of time, allowing them a choice in seating is critical. Students who need to release some of that physical energy to focus on school work need an appropriate outlet and these seating options will help them.
Help my students find ways to satisfy a need to move and be comfortable in a classroom.
Having these seating options would broaden the choice of seating in my classroom so students have a choice in what works best for them.
