My Students

My average day in the classroom begins when I welcome my eighth-grade students, including regular, special, and emotional needs children, into our class. I want my students to succeed. My students like to participate in the school drama club, which is why I sponsor this activity. I teach in a large, diverse, K-8 high poverty school in an urban area of Philadelphia that experiences crime. Our school receives Title I funding, and the entire school is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The students come to school eager to learn from various living situations such as single parents, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living.

My students are the most eccentric, funny, and smart kids you would ever want to meet.

Our skill levels and overall level of support vary by student. Some of my students require additional academic support, and some require additional emotional support. One thing that is universal is our desire to work together.

On the first day of school, we identify ourselves as "a family." A family takes care of one another and looks out for one another. This is what we do. We work together to accomplish our goals.

My Project

My students have big plans for success. Every day when they enter our classroom, they retrieve their folders from a storage cart in the front of our classroom. Unfortunately, this cart is not holding up well after years of use. These new plastic storage carts will enable us to continue staying organized with all of our work, including our learning of financial literacy skills.

Also, we are in need of new folders as we complete one school year and begin to look forward to another.

The combination of new organizational materials for my students and places to keep our work neat and organized will greatly help our classroom run more efficiently.
