Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"How much does it cost with tax? How much is 40% off?" Those are questions I hear too often and I need my students to be able to do this on their own and learn how to shop without assistance in figuring out percent and change.

My seventh grade students are eager students who enjoy learning new concepts and working in cooperative groups.

They come from low-to mid socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home so the classroom is the only place they are able to have access to technology. They enjoy hands-on learning experiences and incorporating technology in their learning. My students have been struggling with monetary concepts and it is imperative I clarify all misconceptions for them and teach them the skills needed to be fiscally responsible on their own.

My Project

I need to enhance my students' financial learning experiences by having them access the educational & interactive financial tools available on-line. In receiving a functional laptop my students will have the means to access the on-line interactive tools available to reinforce & enrich their financial conceptual learning. In having a laptop my students will have the opportunity to practice money concepts, such as percentage and tax, using interactive software. They will have the opportunity to employ technology in engaging ways to help refine, review, and enhance financial literacy through identifying and calculating percent, making money amounts, making change & learn how to earn and spend money. In receiving this laptop my students will have a great tool to better prepare them for becoming a successful consumer and asset to the nation's economy.

With budget cuts to education, it is difficult to attain resources needed to enrich and enhance student learning experiences.

In receiving a laptop, my students will have the means to reinforce and enhance their conceptual monetary understanding to better prepare them for the nation's economy.
