Help me give my students folder pockets, dry erase markers, dry erasers, ID badge lanyards, goldfish crackers, Jolly Ranchers and Dum Dum lollipops for our classroom store.
I teach a fabulous group of first graders who are inspiring, motivating, and fun to teach. They are the future readers, writers, mathematicians, computer analysts, engineers, artists, and musicians of the world.
I teach in a large, diverse, K-8 high poverty school in an urban area of a large city in Pennsylvania that experiences crime.
Our school receives Title I funding and the entire school is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The students who come to school eager to learn are from various living situations such as single parents, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living. I am dedicated to meeting their needs daily, along with building their self-esteem and confidence.
My Project
Our classroom store needs these items in order to keep it running efficiently. We have an early lunch period and by 1:30, I hear "I'm hungry" from many little voices.
Students will be able to purchase snacks from our classroom store with their "Fitz Pix".
They earn these tickets by being on task and making good choices. These goldfish and graham crackers would help them stay focused for a full day of learning.
And we love to incorporate counting edible objects at math time. The Jolly Ranchers and Dum Dums will be awarded for getting "caught making good choices" on a weekly basis.
Speaking of lunch, my first graders need ID badges on lanyards for their 9 digit student number in order to get their free lunch. They are just beginning to learn their numbers. This will help them learn a sense of numbers and finances, because they won't always be able to receive a free lunch. They will also use these lanyards to hold computer logins to learn about the value of money.
We need dry erase markers and erasers to practice our writing and math skills while setting the prices for the classroom store. The pocket folders will be used to hold materials and prizes for the classroom economy.
Can you imagine the difference that these basics can make in the life of a neglected high poverty child? Help me set the children up for success to bridge the achievement gap. Your donation can have rippling effects in the world to make it a better place.
