Financial Literacy with Picture Books

Help me give my students picture books to help them increase their financial literacy skills.

My Students

My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. They enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information while integrating the arts to show their learning. They get very excited any time we can use technology in the classroom, and they aren't afraid to try something new.

Jane Goodall once said, "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.

What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." With this quote in mind, I want to help my students become aware of the impact they are having on the world around them.

My Project

In second grade, students learn about money. We count, sort, and save! In this project, I am asking for picture books to not only teach financial literacy, but to give students an opportunity to save and spend their classroom currency. Some of the books like Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday and Rock, Brock, and the Savings Shock will teach kids about saving their money. Other books like The Big Umbrella A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue will be used as incentives during our picture book parties.

Learning about financial literacy through picture books helps students understand how wants and needs and saving and spending work.
