Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school in Los Angeles, CA, where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. I teach a group of 24 enthusiastic first graders who are eager to learn and do their best each day and at all times. My students come from low socioeconomic families. Many of the families have just enough money to cover their basic needs of food and shelter. Despite being only first graders, my students come to class each day ready to learn be to be challenge with new ideas.
Is very rewarding to see my student’s faces brighten each time they understand a new concept that was a challenge to them at one point!
My Project
The colorful and long lasting counters and storage totes are excellent resources for my students to use as they solve real life math problems. They will use these counters on a daily basis to help them grasp math concepts easily.
My students will use the counters to enhance their minds by counting, comparing, sorting, identifying number patterns, and solving addition and subtraction problems, and most importantly the counters will help them solve and roll play everyday situations.
The materials we receive for this project will keep my students focus, engaged and most definitely it will help them understand and expand their understanding and experience in financial literacy.
