Financial Literacy Running a School Store...

My students need supplies to run a school store. We need glue, scissors, pencils and more pencils, crayons, markers and so much more to teach about financial literacy.

My Students

"Give a man a fish, he eats for a day!~Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime". I can teach my students about counting & money but to teach financial responsibility will last them forever. Making a budget and spending within their means will make them confident about financial literacy.

I teach a wonderful group of young students who strive to come to school each day and work very hard.

I want to make sure to give them every opportunity they deserve. I want them to be strong minded and knowledgable, to do that we need to make them financially secure and confident. Teaching financial literacy at this age is imperative to their future. They can grow up and get jobs, knowing they know how to earn, save, budget, and spend within their means. Our school works very hard to teach each student how to be responsible citizens in society. What better thing to invest our time and energy on educating these students about financial responsibilities, a life skill that will benefit them now and in the future.

My Project

My class runs a school store & I am requesting school supplies and snacks. Our students do not always come to school with the needed supplies. Students are given the opportunity to earn "dollars" with behavior, good work habits, and great social skills. Each student can spend their dollars at the school store. In the past I know that some students will save their money for weeks to BUY the larger more expensive items if they really WANT it….Some students can never get that BIG items because their "DOLLARS" burn a whole in their pockets. I want them to learn to budget what they earn and save until they have enough to buy something they really need. I have requested coloring books, pencils, scissors, and markers. I want them to see the difference in regular pencils and incentive pencils, cuter is not always better!!! I feel that students who run a school store get experience handling money & working with others. Both are real life skills every person needs!!

Students will learn financial literacy as well as life skills needed to get jobs in the future.

Working with others in the store is a great social skill as well as a life skill, the experience alone will help many of my students. I am always telling my students "We all have jobs, mine is to teach and yours is to come to school and work". The supplies for the school store will allow students to purchase the items they need to "WORK" each day. Let's help them do the best "WORK" they can do!!!!
