Financial Literacy: Morning Tubs!

Help me give my students a money-related board game, multiplication card games, play money, and other hands-on materials to build basic math and financial literacy skills.

My Students

Middle school can be tough. Socially, emotionally, and academically, there can be lots of challenges for students in the early teen years. My students are learning English and adapting to a new culture while navigating these difficult years.

My English language learner students are resilient, resourceful, and caring young teens.

My students have been learning a new language and new technology skills at the same time; bit by bit, we've begun developing a classroom community together. We are really looking forward to spending time face-to-face in the coming year.

My Project

My students are back learning in-person this year, but there is plenty which has not yet returned to normal. Students arrive in our classrooms over a thirty-minute time period before starting their first class. I would like to model our activities during this time on the Morning Tub routine utilized more commonly by teachers in elementary schools.

With the multiplication card games, play money, Allowance board game, and other hands-on math supplies, I will be able to provide my students with the opportunity to relax and quietly socialize while learning key math and financial literacy skills.

The plastic storage containers will be used to store and distribute these materials in order to keep them organized and accessible for all.
