Financial Literacy in Preschool

My Students

The preschool students in my class are students with special needs, as well as typically developing children. Our preschool classroom is an inclusive classroom with children with special needs. My preschool students love to explore everyday concepts. They are very curious about the world around them.

Preschool children form their own ideas and understanding about money based on their own experiences and their engagement in social practices involving money.

Therefore, an effective way to teach children about what money is and the value of money as well as money management skills is to incorporate these concepts into their daily social interactions and familiar environments. Our students love to role-play in the classroom. Our preschool classroom environment is in need of learning materials to enhance their education.

My Project

My preschool students need materials for our classroom to learn about wants and needs. They need to community helper job dress -up clothes to be able to pretend to go to work each day. They need work props to help them role play their jobs. They also need play money and a play ATM bank to begin to learn about money and how it works. Finical literacy in preschool means learning how to work together and work well with others. It is about learning how to share, trade and get along.
