Help me give my students costumes, books, and set design items to implement BizMovie, a program that teaches kids 21st century skills and financial literacy through movie making.
I love my students’ imagination and passion! Their energy for learning is unparalleled, and their enthusiasm is contagious.
My amazing bunch of 28 students come from different cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds that we celebrate every day.
Each student has a unique and valuable set of experiences and abilities that they contribute to the class. We have worked hard to build bonds with each other and consider our class to be like a family, while our classroom is like a home. Students truly feel safe to be themselves, take risks, and explore.
My Project
These materials will help my students learn about being entrepreneurs through a program called BizMovie. BizMovie teaches children in grades 3-8 the basics of entrepreneurship and business while encouraging them to explore technology by creating their own animated movies. During this project-based learning experience, students work in teams of six to start and run their own movie production companies.
This student-driven real-world experience gives students the opportunity to create movies!
Students determine all aspects of their group's movie production company; they create the concept for their movie, storyboard and produce it, create and execute a marketing campaign, and sell tickets to an audience. The program culminates with a Box Office Day where students present their movie previews and sell tickets to a group of peers, adults and faculty. Moviegoers enjoy watching the student-created films and give constructive feedback.
Having materials such as books that teach them about film making will help them learn the background information that they need to be successful. Students will have access to costumes for plays as well as Legos, clay, and backgrounds for stop-motion animation movies. Finally, we will have some decorations for our end of project celebration. We can't wait to tackle this project and share what we've learned.
