Financial Literacy for Our Community

My students need a laptop computer so they can strengthen their journalism skills.

My Students

My students are considered economically disadvantaged. 100% of the school population receives free lunch. Many do not have computers at home. They do not have anyone at home to help them with assignments. There are few parents who are actively involved in school activities. Students have little to no exposure to technology once the leave the school.

With this laptop, my students will enhance their writing and technology skills, and develop financial literacy and journalism skills.

This will allow them to take the knowledge they learned and apply it to something useful in not only their lives, but the lives of their community.

My Project

My students will engage in a series of lessons in and out of school in order to increase their knowledge of financial literacy. I have spent this summer in training so that I was confident enough to coordinate this effort with my students. After this training I know how important it is to my students future to be competent with these ideas.

Financial literacy is critical in breaking the cycle of debt and replacing it with wealth.

My students will lead the effort to educating their community through a series of newsletters that can be sent to families. Through their research, journalism, and training, they will become not only takers of knowledge, but givers as well.
