My Students

I, one hundred percent, believe my students can be as successful as they want to be, in whatever way that looks to them. I love to give my students experiences and exposure to ideas that they may have not have experienced yet. I teach many students that are learning English as their second language.

I reject the student deficit model and instead, embrace that they are already wonderful learning beings and I would like to ignite even more passion and curiosity into their already bright minds.

My Project

Many first graders learn best by using hands-on materials and visuals. Since many of my students are learning English, having manupulatives like these can be extremely helpful. These money and time mats will make a great learning center for my students to practice learning about what money looks like and what the amounts mean. The fact that these amounts include time is a bonus! The giant magnetic money will make it easier for all students to see money on the board, no matter where they are seated at in the classroom. I also can envision the giant size money bringing some humor in the classroom.
