My Project

Dramatic or pretend play helps students develop and practice social skills, build relationships with their peers, and develop interests and passions. Relationships and social-emotional learning are at the core of early childhood, and we hope that having these items can help build these skills.

Items requested will enhance our classroom dramatic play space during instructional time and beyond When students engage in dramatic play, they can create experiences by imagining new possibilities and deepen their understanding of different cultures by adding multicultural foods into our current Social-Emotional Learning and Social-Justice-Anti-Bias Curriculums will enhance their understanding of identity, diversity, justice, and action domains while teaching mathematics, In turn, students will learn about the importance of how money is exchanged for goods and services.

Students will also get a sense of how much certain foods (groceries) are worth by first estimating how much it is and then confirming the actual price by taking a trip to the market. I will also have Grocery Store Ads from local stores available to them. Students will connect this grocery store/financial literacy study to other units of study throughout the year.

Pretend Money will also be used as a token economy system in which the students earn money as they complete assignments, tasks, and projects throughout the school day. Children who are reluctant to speak or may be more willing to talk during dramatic play especially children on the Autism Spectrum.

Special needs students can use the hands-on dramatic play objects/foods in all subject content, such as Financial Literacy, ELA, Math, Science, History, Art, Visual Performing Arts, Theater, & Physical Education so that they see diversity in all aspects of their education. I can model with baskets, and food groups during instruction with the students. Dramatic Play into Financial Literacy Centers.
