My Students
My 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are very inquisitive and caring. They bring a variety of experiences, needs, and abilities to class from diverse backgrounds. We have nearly 1400 students with diverse demographics of Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Hispanic, Asian, African-American, and Caucasian students.
Hands-on career and budgeting games allow students to explore and increase their health career research, financial literacy and money management skills.
We have a diverse student body. We work hard to support student voice and choice. This project allows students to be creative and resourceful as they increase their financial knowledge and money management skills. Students are excited to learn about money, careers, and financial management. We live in a high cost of living state. They will learn the importance of research career options that will pay a living wage and how to manage their money.
My Project
Financial literacy and career research will be a lifelong asset for students. Students will enjoy learning about resources, strategies for success, competition, and economic choices through the use of games and career research. There is so much interaction that happens while playing a board game. It will be exciting to hear the discussions that will transpire while they are playing. Most students spend time on electronics and do not spend enough time interacting with peers. Students will also learn about health careers, including medical terminology to understand health career options that are high demand, high skills, and high wage. Games and books will improve their finance and health career knowledge.
Classics like Monopoly and Life teach financial literacy and the books assist in learning about health careers allowing students to explore potential future healthcare careers that pay a high wage.
This grant allows each classroom to transform into a financial hub where students can have a choice in how they can increase financial, economic, and health career knowledge. The current COVID crisis has emphasized the need for healthcare workers and financial situations families can face. We will use the games and books within our study of personal finance, investment, entrepreneurship, and careers. The games will also be available during our after school program.
