Financial Literacy and Financial Education Part Two

My Students

I teach a class of 22 amazing second graders. They are loving, intelligent, kind, and funny. They come to school wanting to learn and become better citizens.

My students come from diverse backgrounds and many come from families at lower income levels.

Many of my students come from challenging home environments and have limited resources at home. Many of them do not have basic supplies to help them succeed. The one thing they all have in common is that they are eager to learn.

My Project

I was lucky enough to have a project funded for professional development in the area of teaching financial literacy to my second graders. This curriculum was a download from an online source. Therefore, I need to print and organize the professional books so that I can read and take notes.

It is my personal goal to increase the financial literacy of my students in order to lay the foundation of making financially responsible decisions in their future.

In order to work on financial literacy lesson plans, I need card stock for printing the electronic books and binding combs to bind the pages together. Sheet protectors and laminating sheets will allow me to protect the most important pages. As a learner, I like to have physical copies of what I am studying. It allows me to mark up, take notes, and flag as I am working on my professional development. All of these items will bring my financial literacy project to life in my second grade classroom!
