Financial Fun on Fridays

My students need The Game of Life, Monopoly, Payday and the Pay Day Game to help them learn about financial literacy.

My Students

8th grade is the best! My 8th graders come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Our school is a Title 1 school. We're a suburban community that pulls students from a wide range of neighborhoods.

My 8th graders are on the edge between childhood and adulthood; they are so ready to soar.

In middle school, each day brings them closer to discovering who they're going to be. Each day gives them an opportunity to grow into responsible, respectful adults.

My Project

At my school students have an advisory class first thing in the morning. This class is called STAR - Student-Teacher Affective Relationships. In STAR, we are able to teach life skills, like being prepared, maintaining healthy relationships, and how to stand up for others. Fridays are "Fun Fridays" where we play games together.

Board games like Life, Monopoly, and Payday will teach my 8th graders financial literacy skills.

Having enough games for all my kids to play is key. Also, we only have 35 minutes together, so I selected the shorter "Monopoly Empire" game, as it is a shorter version of the beloved Monopoly!
