Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fourth grade classroom in Ohio is comprised of approximately 40 amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households and receive free breakfast and lunch.

It is important to me they are afforded a classroom environment which promotes learning and well-being.

The learning environment that I hope to create for my students is one that inspires them to succeed and supports them every step of the way. My fourth grade students come to school each day, often times bringing their home lives with them. I spend a great deal of time throughout the year creating a strong sense of classroom community. My students not only rely on me to support them in their learning and serve as a positive role model in their lives, but they have come to rely on one another through the positive relationships they have formed.

My Project

Materials for my project consist of various hands on activities. The Exploring Economy Hands on Literacy kit will introduce students to economics that show concepts in action. The Money Folder Game will help students boost their math skills independently. The Global Challenges Book Set introduces students to important environmental issues that could effect our economy. The Westward Movement Resource Box will teach students about westward expansion and how pioneers sought economic ways to survive. The U.S. States & Regions Resource Box will teach students about U.S. states and how various regions became known as the North, South and West of the United States developed in the early 1800's largely based on their physical environments and economies.

It is important students develop skills in economics, understanding wants and needs, exchange, money, opportunity cost, simple budgets, saving, spending, donating money, and understanding the production of goods and the roles of suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers in the supply chain.

These resources will engage my students in economic decision making and skills. My students will not only be able to practice analyzing costs and benefits but also proposing alternatives to economic problems.
