Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a special education teacher I coteach four different classes. A biology, two physics, a chemistry and a 9th grade English class. In these classes we strive to make hands on final projects that are thoughtful and thought provoking. In Biology students will make dioramas (surprisingly, 10th graders love this!) to show how a specific biome has changed over time. They’ll then present them to visiting classes. In chemistry we use Pom poms and pipe cleaners to make visual representations of atoms and covalent bonding. For physics we use the toy cars to measure acceleration.
All of these projects make the learning sticky for the students.
Sticky in the sense of being more likely to remember because it’s personal for them. They made it!
