Final Pieces For Our 21st Century Classroom Collaborative Learning Area!

My Students

I currently teach 128, 7th grade students at a rural district just north of Buffalo, NY. It is a fantastic community to be part of and the kids are even better. My students are eager to learn and have come up from the lower grades, well-prepared for our rigorous curriculum. They are 21st Century Learners who are used to cutting edge learning activities and environments.

My students are starving for learning environments that prepare them for high school and college.

Ones that foster collaboration, teamwork, planning etc. They are active, 12-year old learners that no longer want to sit in desks in rows like the classrooms earlier generations were used to. It is my hope and goal to provide my students with as many tools as they need to be prepared for what their future holds.

My Project

We just completed phase one of building our classroom collaborative learning area by adding a chair with an arm tablet. Due to the overwhelming response by my students, I would like to add a second chair with arm tablet and a storage table for more students to use. Students are already using the rug area but unfortunately there is not enough seating available for whole groups.

By adding a new chair and storage table, my hope is to open the collaborative area for even more students to use.

Since the first chair's arrival, student participation in classroom activities has really increased. Kids are exhibiting 21st century skills such as collaboration, effective communication, and teamwork. These final pieces of the classroom project will be a great addition to our room.
