My Students

My video production students create wonderful films, but right now they are limited to viewing on a computer screen. We would love to make DVD copies of their work to share with peers, family, send to film festivals, and colleges.

I work with urban high school kids.

Our school has gone through several years of budget cuts and resources are scarce. With class sizes often reaching 30+, and the rising costs of supplies, it's difficult to get any funding even for small projects. My students are amazing, resilient kids who are facing the odds in an underfunded inner-city school in Massachusetts. They are a diverse group of young men and women, sharing the common challenge of growing up poor in an urban city. Many of them work jobs after school to help their families survive. Rarely do they have extra cash for even the most basic of school supplies.

My Project

My students need an HP ePrinter with cartridges, DVDs and DVD Labels to publish their films and college portfolios to DVD! This project will help my students in two ways. First, it will allow my TV Production students to make DVD versions of their work and share it with others (including college admissions officers.) They produce incredible films and public service announcements that deal with topics such as bullying, history, and community issues, but currently have no way to share their work (youtube is blocked at school!). Secondly, it will allow me to teach my students the final components of the post-production process. Burnable DVDs, and a printer to make labels and covers for the DVD's and cases, will make this final step in post-production a reality for them.

By contributing to this project, you will directly influence my students' ability to learn all aspects of the video/film production process as well as successfully apply to colleges that require hard copies of media portfolios.

Additionally, you will provide them with the tools to express their creativity.
