My Students

We are a Title I school in an economically-challenged area, and our students love to come to the library eager to see what new books are available.

Every study shows that the more students read, the better they do in school and the more successful they are.

Having sought-after books in the library is how I boost my students' academic success and personal achievement. The gleam in their eyes when they are holding a copy of the newest, popular book that is checked out to them is the best sight in the world.

My Project

My students are always asking where the graphic novels are and while I can point them to the collection, they are often disheartened to find all the popular books are checked out. What they need is more copies and more volumes in current series so there is always plenty to borrow, lots to read, and tons to share.

Reading is more than just processing words, and when students are excited about what they've read, they can't help but inspire others to read by sharing and comparing books.

This is easier to accomplish when there are lots of great books and full sets of series for them to choose from, and reading graphic novels is an important skill set for students to be able to develop through continued practice cloaked in fun reading!
