My Students

First grade in the best place in the world. It is a magical time where kids learn everything about their environment. They develop creativity and enhance their imagination. They become more independent, while still aiming to please!! They are inspired by the world around them. We are a Title I school, but we work hard to excel. All teachers work hard to provide the best-individualized education for all students. Our first-grade class is made up of students who are eager to learn about everything.

My Project

This is my first year teaching first grade. I am so impressed with how reading just takes off in first grade!! Once a week my students are able to "book shop" for books of their reading level. They choose ten books that they want to read throughout the week. They are able to take them home to read by themselves or with their family. They never let me forget it to "book shopping" day!

This grant will provide my students with over 100 new book titles to add to our take home library.

A classroom library is never complete, and this grant will offer my students a much bigger variety of books to take home in their reading bags. When about 200 books per week go home with my students, I always feel the need to continue growing our classroom take home library!
