Help me give my students access to online reading using two laptops for a listening station. Phonics cards and readers will help also develop those skills needed to be a successful reader and writer.
Some students struggle with reading and writing. They lack the phonemic awareness and phonics skills needed to progress. These resources will help aid those struggles.
Sounds, letters, and word patterns are essential for student growth in reading and writing, and gaining these resources would greatly help struggling readers practice those skills.
Students need to listen to stories and watch as the words are read to them to build their language and fluency skills. For phonics, students need access to letter cards for manipulating the sounds they here. Our district does not provide extra copies of such cards, and thus; we as teacher pay for them. If I could get a few sets of letter cards, then students would individually be able to manipulate the letters for phonics or spelling.
If I was given these laptops, I would use them for students to listen to stories. We only share a group of laptops with the other four 2nd grade classrooms. Having two in my room would allow for a listening station. I could even use them for a project creation station.
If I could have better leveled texts, then struggling readers could have access to books at their levels. Then they can progress from there. For example, I need more short vowel books. Students would then progress to the long vowel books. Students also struggle with blends and digraphs, and these books have for practice as well.
