My Students
Second grade is such a wonderful year of learning. We have so many different types of learners with many different needs. I have had the privilege of teaching students with Autism, Gifted and Talented, students with ADHD, students who receive Speech and Language Services, and students who are considered typically developing. We have a diverse set of needs that need to be met every day.
My students have unique traits and backgrounds and when we come together they make our classroom feel like a family.
I am so excited for the learning that my students will show this year. They will learn to take time to do quality work and let their effort shine. These kids come from families who support and nurture their creative drive and give them the tools they need to be successful later in their education and life.
My Project
When students struggle with reading, teachers often reach for the same "bag of tricks" year after year, and it works to help most students.
I'm not satisfied helping MOST of my students, I want ALL of my second graders to be able to read.
I'm humble enough to admit that I need to broaden my knowledge of what's happening in the brains of struggling readers. With these books on dyslexia and the science of reading, I will get tools that will help ALL students in my class become stronger readers, regardless of their current level. By doing this it will ensure that ALL kids, not MOST are making the growth that they are capable of.
