Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I currently work with English Learners and pull them out one hour of their day to learn reading and writing in their native language. Research states that if ELs strengthen their native language, they will be able to transfer that knowledge to their second language. In my class, students learn the skills that their peers are learning. I want them to become motivated in learning their first language, and not see this pull out service as a punishment for learning English.

As students acquire Spanish literacy skills, students that show growth in specific skills, will get incentives weekly by reviewing their progress reading charts.

The incentives requested will be placed in a treasure box they can choose from, allowing them to choose between a sweet candy, a fidget toy, or just a reward can make their reading experience a much more positive experience as they will become motivated to keep learning. Classroom rewards will motivate students to try their best in our Spanish Language Arts class.
