This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My bright and spirited students are always eager to learn. These students come from a low-socioeconomic area in Los Angeles. Most of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. This does not stop their eagerness to learn and read!

My students are so excited about reading!

If they could read all day, they would! They love our read aloud time. This is a time where we meet on the carpet to read stories. We have great conversations about the books we read. Students also love their independent reading time as well. Although are independent reading time is limited, they truly appreciate this time of the day. It's the time when they can get lost in a book and forget about everything else.

My Project

My students love reading, especially graphic novels! Our class has a pretty good collection of graphic novels. However, at this point in the school year, students have read all of the graphic novels in our collection and are begging for more.

Our library needs some color, and graphic novels are just the thing to add color!

We are requesting graphic novels, because I just can't keep enough of these books on our shelves. Sometimes students can be reluctant to read, but I have never seen a student turn down a graphic novel.

This request will put a good amount of books in students' hands. These books will be used for our class read aloud time. Students will be able to check these books out of our classroom library to read during independent reading time. We also requested a blank comic book, so we can create some graphic novels of our own. We are so excited for the chance to add more graphic novels to our library!
