I am a third-grade classroom teacher from a Title I school with over 50% of the students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. My students are kindhearted and passionate learners who are very active! They enjoy moving around the classroom and appreciate positive attention and choices.
Many of my students face challenges beyond their control.
I am looking for simple ways to help them become inspired and grow as learners. I want them to come to school and see a place that is safe, comfortable, and flexible enough to meet their needs.
My Project
I love helping kids get excited about reading, but for many students, this is a difficult task. I have found that the best thing to do is to find out what truly interests a child and then lead them to a book series that sparks that interest. Fantasy and fiction are loved by many children! Kids are drawn into the magical aspect of these books that take them away from the real world.
This project will add 2 fantasy book series to my classroom library: Dragon Masters and the Dragon Slayers Academy!
Book series are an excellent way to hook readers and help them find joy in reading! I love getting young readers started on a new series because they allow my students to continue reading for multiple books in a row. The 2 series I have chosen for this project are sure to spark my students' interests while still being accessible to their reading levels. Many of my students are interested in books such as Harry Potter but aren't quite reading at a high enough level to comprehend those books. These series will allow them to immerse themselves in a similar type of magical world while building up their confidence in their decoding and comprehension skills. Please consider donating to our project to help me on my journey to encourage a classroom of lifelong readers!
