Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic, loving, hardworking students like most middle school students. They come from many different backgrounds and most qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch. Many of my students are very excited to come to school because of the opportunities that they are given in their elective classes. Most of the students do not have the resources at home to do extracurricular activities.
When given the opportunity to show their creative side my students thrive!
They love to use their imaginations and create because it shows who they are as an individual. Middle school is definitely a time that they want to shine.
My Project
The books that we are requesting are books that relate to students with different backgrounds or make them think about what others go through. So many times students do not want to read because they feel like the book is unimportant to their life or what they are going through.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds and experiences and the books they read should capture that.
We currently have a small bookshelf that has books that are ok but do not capture their attention. These books that we are asking for show many things like gender identity, immigration, alternative childhood experiences, being different and growing up in different places. These books will be used mostly for choice reading time but we will also use some of them to compare and contrast the differences in their circumstances.
