My Students
I teach 3rd, 4th and 5th grade special education. My classroom is designed for students who learn differently and need an individualized approach. Students' learning may be impacted by a variety of differences such as learning disabilities, autism, chromosomal abnormalities, etc.
My classroom is a safe second home for special learners to learn reading, writing, math, science, social and life skills.
Differences are not deficits. In my classroom, students are empowered and encouraged. Thank you for your impact on this unique and deserving community!
My Project
Students earn classroom dollars, called "Bear Bucks" for completing and returning homework, returning signed behavior charts, etc. It's not bribery - it's positive reinforcement! On Fridays, they get to go shopping for prizes in the big treasure box. Such fun!

Most of the items I requested are big-ticket purchases. The LEGO kits will easily go for $100 in Bear Bucks. I've learned from the students that Tamagotchis are having a moment right now, so I requested several. I have one student who would really like a sewing kit, so I thought I'd throw that in there as well. The water beads are very popular. They'll be divided into smaller bags and 'sold' in the $5 Bear Bucks box.
