My Students

I teach a diverse group of 5th and 6th graders who come from a high poverty area. They are rambunctious and fun, and they enjoy school when it engages them.

Many of them deal with difficult home circumstances that make school the least of their problems.

They all receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite their backgrounds, they all have great potential, and I know it is my job to unlock that within them. I hope you'll help me in my task!

My Project

One aspect of my teaching that I would like to improve is emphasizing independent reading and fostering a love of reading among my students.

A full and abundant classroom library is integral to accomplishing this instructional goal.

I want my students to have a wide variety of books to choose from. I believe that choice in what to read will motivate them to read more. And we all know that more reading = better reading.

Many of my students have not discovered how wonderful and transformational reading for pleasure can be. With your help, I can show them. Help me show them what they're missing out on.
